Work and energy are very close quantities in physics. We should consume energy to do work. But work in physics has a very specific meaning. You may think about a plan in your company as your work and even get paid however it is not work physics. To do work, you should apply a force and make a displacement for its point of action. 

Energy is ability to do work. Energy has two main types: kinetic and potential. It has too many features like electric energy, chemical energy, nuclear energy and so on. 

The rate of energy transfer is called power. The faster a work done, the more power consumed.
